Event Topic: The Dark Arts of Project Leadership: Influence and Politics
While project management focuses on the "Dark Arts" to control timelines and resources, for the Business Analyst, this topic is about mastering informal influence to ensure solution success. It involves moving beyond technical elicitation to navigate the "invisible architecture" of an organization—the hidden agendas, unspoken power dynamics, and emotional resistance that data alone cannot overcome. By developing political intelligence, a BA can identify the true decision-makers, resolve conflicting stakeholder interests, and secure the "buy-in" necessary to transform a documented requirement into a realized business value.
This session will be an interactive discussion among all attendees to search for better
ways to make a difference that matters.
Joe Perzel has been defining requirements, leading projects of all sizes, and managing teams since 1982 in both a corporate and vendor capacity. He has a background in multiple industries such as healthcare, insurance, finance, government, manufacturing, non-profit, and education. Presently, Joe is President of the Minnesota Chapter of IIBA and contracting at AON Reinsurance. Previously, he has held leadership positions at Cargill, Thomson Reuters, MN Workers Compensation Bureau, International Multifoods, and PMI Minnesota.
A seasoned speaker since 2002, Joe presents internationally on topics such as stakeholder management, leadership, strategy, negotiation, and emerging trends. He has delivered keynotes, workshops, and chapter meetings for organizations including PMI Global, IIBA, PMBA Conferences, BBC (Building Business Capability), IPMA, ASQ, and over 20 PMI chapters worldwide.
